Hi all.Sorry for butting in, but I've had a browse through my 8200 manual, and Isee no way of deleting ALL memories at once.If I am correct, you have two options, Factory Reset, or Delete individualmemory banks, one at a time.To delete a memory bank, press scan, then select the relevant bank todelete. Then Press Function key, then hold 9 key until DEL SRCH A is shown(for example). Then press the down arrow three times until DELETE MEM BANKis shown.

You can then scroll across and select which bank to delete.Press PASS key when you want to go ahead and delete the selected bank.I wouldn't recommend deleting bank D, coz that was my military airband bankand I just lost the lot. F.#K it!!Never mind, I have the PC8200 lead, and everything is backed up on the PC.I have to say, if I hadn't got the PC lead when I bought my AOR 8200 secondhand last year, I would have sold it long ago. Using it to it's fullpotential without the lead is just a joke. Scrolling through thousands ofmemories, and pressing hundreds of different key combinations is not my ideaof fun. I can operate modern Ham radio sets without difficulty, and have gotused to the menu systems employed in them, I use a lot of differentscanners/Receivers along with lots of similar equipment at work, but the8200 is the most difficult and least friendly to use. I'm gradually gettingused to it, but if I want to enter some data, it gets plugged into the PC.Easy.I do pick up the manual from time to time and have a little read/play, andhave thought of writing my own manual for it, but I fear it would end uplooking just like the original one.
I'd probably re-arrange the order inwhich the manual is presented. Jeez, you have to wait until you get to page24 until it tells you how to turn the damn thing on! All the previous pagesshould be in some kind of 'Scanner Basics' section at the end of the manual,or just be removed completely!Anyway, when you get to know your way round this unit, I'm sure all willagree that they're an incredible tool.If anyone is struggling with the 8200,I strongly suggest they invest in the PC-8200 lead. Although expensive, theymake life so much easier, and several different versions of software areavailable.I'm guessing the Icom R20 will give stiff competition to the now slightlydated 8200, but who knows what AOR have on the horizon! I look forward to ascanner with DSP, and more data capability, i.e Discriminator tap asstandard, and possibly a PSK/SSTV/RTTY/CW demodulator built in??The 8200 certainly proves itself on UHF Military airband. I am yet to find abetter receiver.
The same can be said the UHF Ham bands. I use a Watson W-50dual band colinear for reception at home, and a dual-band rubber duck, orWatson W-220HB dual-band mobile aerial. This setup it yet to be beaten. MyCrossed dipole (made for satellite work) is fairly unbeatable at home, andresulted in my discone going on ebay.P.S If you get bored with listening to the rapidly-disappearing norm, turnto data, or satellites.
You have to build some oddments and aerials, but youwon't look back, I promise!Cheers all, and enjoy the hobby.Sorry it's been so long since I posted. I do read the group regularly.Joe Landy.seventy three. Sorry mate, my mistake.Press the Function key, then HOLD the 9 key for about 2 seconds. This bringsup a different menu altogether. You scroll down 3 times, and it says Delete memory bank, and off you go.I think the 'press momentarily for 1 function, or Hold for 2 seconds for adifferent function' is the worst part of the AOR. This is certainly whatcauses me the most confusion.See how you get on.Cheers.Joe.PeterboroughUK.E-mail Joelandyman postmaster.co.ukPlease note: All e-mail to my NTLworld account is automatically deleted. The instructions don't make any sense saying press F and then the 9 key 3times etc nothing happens or I am very thick! Someone please enlighten me!I know how you feel. I'm still busy trying to figureout the basic functions of mine, but the jap manualisn't much help when it only makes round eyes dizzy.I wish there was some sort of after-market publicationon the 8200 written by Americans FOR Americans incoherent English prose. My ancient FAIR MATE HP-2000had them, and that's how I learned to use it.However, as frustrating as the learning process canoften be for casual enthusiasts, I'm glad to be theowner of the best chink gear available.I invite correspondence from other MK2/MK3 users whomight be/have been suffering the same dilemma. Afterall, the AR8200 owner knows these aren't Uniden toys!

Afterall, the AR8200 owner knows these aren't Uniden toys!I have created a yahoo group for this scanner. Please join and discuss athttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/8200/. I had a MKII for about 6 or so months.Jesus christ, I can't understand why it was so difficult to use!And the battery life was real crap too. I absolutely loved it as a scanner, but wished to god I didn't sell my Yupi 7100 for it.To make things even worse, they wanted £75 for the PC lead!I know there are allot of people who love the 8200's, so I apologise if Ioffend you,(which I have before!) just personal opinion. But it wasn't as sensitive as my Yupi either though. But twice as dear.Well, I sold the MKII and got my beloved Yupi 7100 back.FOR GOOD!!!Andy.
